HISTORICAL ORATORICAL

Curriculum Brief

Voices of Foster Care: Historical Oratorical is an eight‑week public speaking and personal development curriculum designed for young men preparing to age out of Georgia’s foster care system. Built on the belief that communication is the foundation of self‑governance, leadership, and emotional stability, the program uses the art of oratory to help participants find their voices, strengthen their confidence, and step into adulthood with clarity and purpose.

The curriculum begins with four weeks of intensive public speaking instruction at Electric Church, where students study historical speeches, epic poetry, and contemporary oration techniques. Through guided rehearsal, vocal training, audience engagement exercises, and mentorship from Toastmasters, ministers, poets, and professional speakers, participants learn to command a room, express themselves with authority, and communicate effectively in personal and professional settings.

Complementing the oratorical training is a daily Health & Wellness practice led by certified instructors, integrating yoga, Qigong, breathwork, and trauma‑informed movement. These sessions help students reconnect with their bodies, regulate stress, and develop lifelong self‑care habits. The program also includes Aging Out Services, connecting participants with college opportunities, housing pathways, employment programs, and state resources they may not know they are entitled to.

Throughout the program, cameras capture the students’ growth for a documentary film that celebrates transformation rather than trauma. Instead of focusing on personal hardships, the film highlights discipline, creativity, and the power of speech—supported by original music. Participants earn stipends, production credits, professional bios, and optional pathways into CDL training, internships, and employment.

Set against the serene backdrop of Lake Magnolia and the Electric Church soundstage, Voices of Foster Care offers a culturally resonant, emotionally safe, and artistically rich environment where young men can practice leadership, build confidence, and prepare for the next chapter of their lives. It is a curriculum rooted in empowerment, community, and the belief that every young person deserves the tools to speak their truth and shape their future.
