Becoming the Goddess is a holistic healing curriculum and documentary project designed for young women who have survived foster care, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. Rooted in the sacred landscape of Mount Shasta—the Earth’s symbolic Root Chakra—the program guides participants through a seven‑day journey of self‑restoration using a culturally grounded blend of storytelling, Eastern methodology, nature immersion, and creative arts education.
Developed by adult foster care survivor and Oakland native Jessica Holter, the curriculum integrates daily practices in writing, speech, yoga, hygiene, nutrition, and emotional literacy. Participants move through the chakra system one day at a time, exploring themes of trust, creativity, power, love, communication, intuition, and spiritual awareness. Each lesson is paired with filmmaking, audio journaling, and guided reflection, allowing students to document their transformation while building practical communication and media skills.
The project culminates in a short documentary pilot, a suite of public service announcements, and a multimedia archive of participant‑generated content. Supported by a coalition of Bay Area artists, healers, and educators, Becoming the Goddess offers a replicable model for self‑esteem development, harm‑reduction education, and community‑centered storytelling. It stands as a vibrant alternative to trauma‑focused narratives—centering survivors not as victims, but as creators, authors, and emerging leaders.
